There are a ton of different people online today looking to make a buck off of their blogs. Unfortunately that means that the other people who haven’t done that have taken to the idea that a blog is something that is easily made and amateur at best. While there are always those that use their blogs in a productive and successful way, many just start up a blog and leave it lying dormant. The countless junk-blogs out there shouldn’t put you off, though. You can have a professional looking blog, even if you don’t have the budget for one. There are simple and easy tricks to get some credit to your blog’s name, if you’re willing to put in a little bit of time.
Any time that you need to use a physical background for something you have an opportunity to add some class to your operation. You may need a background if you’re taking pictures of a product that you’re reviewing, if you’re interviewing someone and want to stream a video of it, or even if you’re just sitting in front of something while you take a short recording of it. By using neutral colors like grey, black, white, or brown you are already creating a cleaner background that won’t be distracting to the eye. But if that’s a little boring for you or you want to add some contrast you can do so with a small pop of color or pattern added in. This might be a grey backdrop with some blue chairs or a black-and-white background with red trim. Whatever your stylistic choices are, just get some second opinions on them to make sure that you don’t go overboard with leopard print or zigzags.
When you’re thinking of colors and patterns you’re probably checking bank accounts too. As you start your blog you’ll see that there is some funding that has to go into it. But that doesn’t mean that it has to be a lot. You want to be professional looking, but you don’t want to spend everything you’ve got. That’s alright, instead of painting your backdrop a new color, go to the fabric store and find some cheap fabric in the color that you want. Then just tack it up, covering enough wall to show up on camera. All of the furniture and additions can be bought at second-hand stores or garage sales.
While you’ve been busy thinking of backgrounds and photo ops, you may not have been taking into account the prices that go along with your blog. They can range hugely depending on the site and it can take a long time to find the cheapest one. But you can’t get any cheaper than free, and sites like WordPress do just that. You don’t have quite as much control over webpage backgrounds and fonts, but you do still have a wide array of them to choose from. If you’re just looking to get started and get a blog online, then this is the way to go.
